Staff and the Development Review Committee (DRC) and Planning and Zoning advisory committee recommended approval; the commission voted to approve the annexation and the rezoning ordinances on second reading (motion by Commissioner Firstner, seconded by Commissioner Oliver; motion approved).
Separately, the commission conducted the first reading of ordinances to annex and rezone approximately 9.09 acres at 977 East Crown Point Road (property identified as 977 East Crown Point Road, owner Showers of Grace Evangelical Christian Mission, Inc.). City staff read the annexation and rezoning ordinance language into the record and opened the matter for a public hearing; the hearing was left open for the second reading/public hearing scheduled through Aug. 19 (staff announced the future public hearing date). No final vote on the 977 East Crown Point Road ordinances occurred at this meeting because only first reading took place.
Another public hearing item (an easement-vacate request for 1561 Dusty Pine Drive) was continued by the commission to a future meeting, and staff said Forest Lake Estates-related unilateral solutions and HOA briefings will be discussed in a staff session.
Outcome: 703 Center Street annexation and rezoning approved; 977 East Crown Point Road annexation and rezoning read on first reading and set for continued public hearing.
