Ocoee reads annual Mark Wandell traffic-safety report: nearly 18,000 violations reported, thousands in camera revenue

The commission on Aug. 5 received the city's annual Mark Wandell Traffic Safety Program administrative report for the period July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025, which summarized violations, contested cases, magistrate outcomes and program revenues.

The summary read into the record noted a total of 17,995 violations issued during the period and 55 contested violations. Of the contested cases, 44 were upheld by the magistrate, six were dismissed, and five were pending at the time of the report. Staff said 5,347 of the camera-related violations were converted into uniform traffic citations.

The report included revenue figures read aloud: staff said the gross revenue collected by the city from the program was presented as approximately $1,000,729.02 (verbal transcript included an additional small cents figure), with distributions to state trust funds (Department of Health Emergency Medical Trust Fund and the Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Trust Fund) and a stated revenue retained by the city reported in the meeting as a city-retained portion (figure read orally). Staff emphasized the statutory requirement that municipalities operating photo-detection systems annually report results and that the report must be read aloud at a regular meeting.

The report was accepted as the required annual public record. Commissioners did not make additional policy decisions during the presentation; staff indicated the written report would be filed as required by statute.
