Committee approves no-parking restriction for Wingate Circle after resident complaints

Homewood City’s Public Safety Committee approved a no-parking-anytime restriction for the internal circle at Wingate Circle at its Oct. 6 meeting after a resident complaint that parked vehicles were blocking access.
Councilman Randy Hampton introduced the request and asked staff to show a street view of the circle, describing vehicles that park “around it and block access.” A resident’s complaint that cars sometimes prevent residents and emergency vehicles from using the circle prompted the request. “People park around it and block access,” Hampton said.
Councilor Brandt moved to authorize a no-parking-anytime restriction around the circle; Councilor Overton seconded. The motion passed on a voice vote.
Committee members discussed implementation details including whether fire or police should request striping or signage and the applicable fine amount under the city’s recently discussed schedule. One councilor asked whether the restriction was requested by fire; staff clarified the request came from a resident of Wingate Circle. The committee directed staff to prepare signage and enforcement procedures and to apply the parking fine schedule approved in committee action on ordinance fines.
The restriction is intended to keep the circle clear for driveway access and emergency vehicles; staff said similar circular residential patterns around town may require additional review.
