Organizer seeks Broadway street closure for Best Dam Run finish; commission advises request go to city

The request was raised by Heather, who said Melanie Woods — identified in the meeting as the organizer and part-owner of a downtown wine bar — asked whether the commission could provide volunteers and street-closure equipment for the race finish. Heather said Woods took over the race-director role this year and wishes to finish on Broadway.
Commission members advised that any street-closure or barricade request must be submitted to the city. “That request would have to go to the city,” a commission member said during the meeting. Commissioners discussed potential volunteer sources (including high-school teams and other community volunteers) but noted schedule conflicts with some volunteers and with city events; a commission youth member, Corbin, said he had a meet the same day.
The item resulted in no formal commission action; members instructed the organizer to coordinate directly with city staff for barricades and official street-closure permits and to return to the commission if support from DEC volunteers is needed and feasible.
Organizers were asked to provide the city with the requested closure details — date, time, barricade locations and volunteer needs — so the city could evaluate traffic and public-safety implications.
