Estacada Arts Commission approves annual work plan; openings remain on panel

The Estacada Arts Commission voted to approve its draft work plan and to submit it with the commission's budget after a brief review during the April 2 meeting.

The work plan, which the commission said will guide programming through the coming fiscal year, will be attached to the commission's budget submission to the city. Commissioners discussed minor edits during the meeting and recorded consensus to send the plan forward once the commission chair finalizes those changes.

The commission also discussed membership. Jerry (City Councilor) told the commission the council has authorized expanding the body to nine members; commissioners said four additional seats remain open. Commissioners encouraged outreach to recruit people with event-planning, social media/marketing, and general volunteer-management skills. Commissioners noted city websites, the library and the city reader board as potential places to advertise vacancies to reach residents who do not use Facebook.

The commission briefly approved the March minutes by voice vote and then approved the work plan by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the minutes. Commissioners reviewed quorum rules for a reduced panel (with five or six members present, three members constitute a quorum) and cautioned subcommittees not to hold decision-making meetings that would create an unintentional public-meeting quorum.

Looking ahead, commissioners asked staff to post openings beyond Facebook and to coordinate committee training and onboarding materials with city staff. The commission scheduled continued reviews of the work plan and recruitment outreach at future meetings.
