The City of Milton City Council unanimously approved Change Order No. 1 to the Lockland Lake project contract, authorizing $224,184.50 to complete phase 2 shoreline restoration, city staff said at a special called meeting.
City staff presented the change order as the follow-on phase to work already completed on the lake. "This is change order number 1 to the contract for the, Lockland Lake project," said Mister Spears, a city staff member, describing phase 1 as dredging and sculpting of side slopes that has been completed. Spears said savings from phase 1 made funds available to proceed to phase 2, "which is the shoreline restoration project, which will see some riprap around the outfalls and some sod placed in the highly, sloped areas that are potential for high erosion, to to stabilize those shorelines." He told the council the contractor had agreed to the terms.
Spears identified the change order amount: "The change orders in the amount of $224,184.50. The contractor has agreed to all terms and conditions, and I would, recommend approval." When asked whether the change order covered the whole of phase 2, Spears answered, "This this is it. This is all of it." He added, "We do anticipate we'll be able to refill the lake by the end of the year."
Councilman Powers moved to approve the change order; Councilman Powell seconded the motion. The council voted to approve the item "unanimously approved by all members present," according to the meeting record. The specific recorded vote tallies and the names of all members present were not specified in the transcript.
The approved work is intended to protect shorelines from erosion using riprap around outfalls and sod on steep slopes and is described by staff as phase 2 of a three-phase Lockland Lake project. No other formal actions or amendments to the change order were recorded during the item. The city invited public input after the vote but no members of the public came forward.
The council thanked staff and residents involved; staff acknowledged a resident or staff member, Mister Cook, for his assistance during the project discussion. The council then adjourned the special meeting.
