Murray said seven Clarkston students traveled on the trip this summer and highlighted a Maori cultural experience that included wood carving and traditional performance, a visit to the Agrodome with demonstrations of sheep shearing, water excursions where the group spotted five whales and several dolphin pods, and time at a kiwi hatchery and penguin conservation center. Students and presenters described the trip as academically and culturally enriching.
The presentation included photos and student comments; the board and audience asked a few brief questions (for example, the trip length and number of students). Murray encouraged support for these types of international experiences when possible. No formal action was taken; the presentation was under agenda item 5.1.
