Michael Irwin, a county staff member, said the Leadville transit ramp grant runs through February 2027. "I think it goes till '27," Irwin said when asked about the ramp grant end date.
Commissioner 2 expressed concern about partner funding and said, "My impression is that Skipper is not interested in funding the bus this year." Irwin said he had not heard differently and said he would double-check. The board and staff discussed the potential for partners to revisit funding conversations and possible cost-sharing arrangements.
Irwin also said the current grant does not include funding for bus-stop signage and that staff will check costs and bring a quote to the board for a vote. He said ridership tends to increase on weekends and that staff are reviewing ridership across different transit offerings to determine sustainable funding and service options.
Why it matters: the grant timeline and partner funding decisions determine whether the county can continue current transit routes and what local funding the county must secure to maintain service. Bus-stop signage and other small capital items will require local budgeting if not eligible under current grants.
