Senior center reports membership growth and a $5,000 Meijer donation; schedules programming and field trips

A representative of Richmond’s senior center told the Parks and Recreation Board on Oct. 9 that the center had grown by five new members in October and now has 405 members.

The representative said Meijer and its employees are donating $5,000 to the senior center and that the presentation will be held Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m., during a fitness-to-a-beat class. The donation is intended for programming; the representative said she valued the community recognition as much as the funds.

The senior center representative also described ongoing and planned activities: a wreath honoring veterans created by volunteers, a monthly collage/arts activity led by India Cruz Griffin, field trips to local museums (including the Earlham Museum), budgeting and insurance classes for seniors, hospice presentations focused on living questions, and other social outings. The representative said programing is intended to reconnect members with community organizations and to encourage volunteerism.
