Tristan Borkwin, assistant planning director, told commissioners the variance was originally heard on Sept. 9 and that the county notified the state floodplain coordinator on Sept. 11. “We have to wait at least 30 days before we can make final action,” Borkwin said. He also said the resolution includes a paragraph noting upcoming ordinance amendments that will reduce the freeboard requirement from 2 feet to 1 foot; once the ordinance changes are in place, the variance conditions would align with the future standard and a variance of this type would not be necessary.
A county official noted that the state floodplain coordinator supplied a comment opposing the variance; the transcript records that opposition but does not quote the coordinator directly. Commissioners moved to adopt Resolution 2025-72 and the motion carried with an affirmative voice vote recorded in the meeting.
