The Adams County Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 14 proclaimed October 2025 as Italian American Heritage Month, citing the contributions of Italian immigrants and Italian Americans to the county’s agriculture, industry and public service.
The proclamation noted that Italian American Heritage Month is observed each October and referenced national proclamations dating to 1989. The board read language noting Italian American roles in Colorado’s railroad transportation, mining, masonry and agricultural production, and identified several elected officials of Italian descent in Adams County.
Sheriff Jean Claps attended the meeting and spoke in support of the proclamation. ‘‘My great-grandparents came from Italy. I was born and raised here in Adams County,’’ Claps said, describing the county’s historic truck farms and the role of immigrant communities in establishing local agriculture. Commissioners also linked the recognition to the county’s broader multiethnic agricultural history, citing cooperation among Italian, Japanese American and Hispanic families in local farming communities.
County officials encouraged residents to join a photo with the board following the proclamation. No formal action beyond the proclamation was required.
