An Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) representative briefed the Perris City Council during public comment on Oct. 14 about upcoming sewer‑line construction on Highway 74 and associated traffic controls.

The work and schedule
Kevin Pearson of EMWD said construction will begin within the Highway 74 corridor beginning early next week. Daytime work is planned from about 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Overnight work is scheduled the coming Sunday night for lane restriping and setting temporary concrete K‑rails to protect contractors; those barriers will be pulled back during nonworking hours to keep lanes open.

Pearson said lane reductions for daytime work are expected within one to two weeks, depending on progress, and that later in the year crews will work at the Navajo intersection, during which a detour will be in effect. He said EMWD coordinated traffic control plans with city engineering staff and named Brad Brophy and the engineering staff for assistance.

Community notification and contact
Pearson said EMWD mailed about 6,000 letters two weeks earlier and plans an e‑blast to roughly 3,000 email addresses and social media posts later in the week. He asked residents to use EMWD contacts or city staff for questions and said the district will return to council with further notices prior to the Navajo intersection work.

EMWD urged residents and city staff to direct questions to the district as the project progresses and said it will work to minimize impacts by removing barriers and maintaining lanes outside work hours.
