Jason Puckett presented the item, describing it as a continuation of discussions at a recent council retreat and asking the council to approve formation of a committee to develop recommendations for city celebrations marking the U.S. semi-quincentennial.
A council member moved to approve formation of the committee and to appoint members; the motion was amended on the floor to give the city manager authority to appoint committee members rather than requiring council to identify members at the meeting. The amended motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
Puckett said staff will return with more specific recommendations and noted the city manager will work with council on appointments. Council did not set a deadline for committee appointments or require the manager to name members by a specific date during the meeting.
