Water department announces hydrant flushing schedule; warns of temporary rusty water

Goshen Water & Sewer announced a scheduled hydrant-flushing program for Sept. 29–Oct. 3. Kyle Weldy, the water quality manager, said crews will perform nightly flushing with three two-person teams Monday through Thursday and will perform daytime flushing in the upper pressure zone (north of U.S. 33 and the Norfolk Southern tracks) because the higher-pressure area is more sensitive to pressure changes.
Weldy said flushing can stir iron particles in mains and that discoloration typically clears within two to six hours after a hydrant is flushed. "It is not contaminated. It's just a particulate from that process," Weldy said. He recommended residents avoid activities like laundry during their neighborhood's scheduled flushing window and said the city will do the work at night where possible to reduce disruption.
