The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors voted Oct. 7 to purchase a truck chassis for use as a plow truck; the chassis purchase was budgeted in the current year and the plow equipment will be purchased in the next budget cycle.
County secondary roads staff said the chassis should be ordered as a current‑year model so delivery would match county timing and allow later outfitting when funds for the plow equipment become available. Staff noted the chassis could be delivered within the calendar year and then sent to a vendor to install plow equipment next year.
A board member asked whether upgrade items (a loader or pickup) would be included; staff said those potential purchases were being considered but not funded in the current equipment line. An indicated figure of approximately $147,333 was discussed during the meeting in the context of order planning.
Supervisor Derby moved to approve the chassis purchase; Supervisor Smith seconded. The motion passed on a voice vote.
County staff will coordinate timing with outfitters and schedule payment milestones so the chassis is built and outfitted when plow equipment funds are available.
