Residents ask Hartford to plan alternative marathon transit routes, consider job-placement shelter

Joseph Young, a Hartford resident, told the City Council he experienced a transit disruption during the recent Hartford Marathon when street closures took bus service out of operation and left riders waiting.
"They shut down a lot of bus stops... I was late to work because of this, and I'm sure it's an inconvenience for a lot of people," Young said. He said he waited until "02:30 for the bus to start again," and suggested the city plan alternate routes next year to reduce commuter impacts.
Young also said he saw a program in New Haven that helps shelter residents obtain job placements and move into permanent housing, and he urged Hartford to consider funding a similar model. He suggested a vacant building on Farmington Avenue as a potential site for services.
The council thanked Young and said staff would pass the comment to the marathon organizer and that alternative routing is being considered; no formal council action or funding commitment was made during the meeting.
