Attorney and committee staff explained the main intent: require that certificated and administrative hires hold appropriate Indiana licenses or have applied for them, and update policy references from legacy assessments (ISTEP/GQE) to the current state assessments (iRead, iLearn, SAT). Trustees discussed the operational impact on hiring (for example, hiring relocating candidates who lack an Indiana license) and suggested that job postings require applicants to have applied for or hold Indiana licensure when applicable.
The committee also suggested repealing two policies, 9150 (visitors on school property) and 4112 (board–staff communications). Trustees asked that repeal be handled as a separate agenda item with the formal repeal procedure and that legal staff verify whether statutory references cited (Indiana Code 20-26-5-4 and others) make repeal appropriate. The policy committee chair and administration agreed to prepare a separate repeal item and to bring back clarifying language for second reading.
No final votes were taken at the Oct. 9 work session; trustees asked for additional review of statutory links, operational procedures for implementation, and a formal repeal proposal in a future packet.
