Board approves next-phase testing and demolition work for Tecumseh Community Memorial Pool

The Tecumseh Public Schools Board of Education voted Sept. 22 to approve next phases of selective demolition and testing at the Tecumseh Community Memorial Pool so district staff can determine the scope of repairs needed.

Josh Madison presented the item and answered trustees’ questions about next steps. Board members noted the district has sinking‑fund revenue beginning to arrive and that the district previously executed a tax‑anticipation note for $950,000 to support cash flow for capital projects. Madison said staff will use the testing and selective demolition work to gather “good intel on the structure” before proceeding to larger repair phases.

A trustee clarified the larger procurement status: the board member said that, in prior discussions, the district had selected DKI International and Seaway Scaffold and Equipment as bidders for the pool project and that the combined figure for that work was approximately $6,667,000 — under the expected budget. Board members said the approval on Sept. 22 covers the immediate testing and selective demolition so project teams can finalize scope and costs for later phases.

The motion to approve the testing and demolition work passed by roll call with all trustees voting aye. Staff said sinking fund receipts have started to “trickle in” and that previously authorized finance measures are available to bridge timing while tax revenues are collected.

Trustees instructed staff to proceed with the contracted testing and to return with bid and scope data for full capital work before awarding major construction contracts.
