The Tecumseh Public Schools Board of Education unanimously accepted a $25,000 gift from TLC Community Credit Union for the district’s athletic department during its Sept. 22 meeting.
Superintendent Matt Hilton was absent; staff presented the donation and noted the funds will support athletic development programs that use the district’s indoor training facility known as “The Barn.” A staff member thanked the donor on behalf of the superintendent and the district.
Board members discussed facility conditions at The Barn, noting it lacks running water and locker rooms and is served by portable toilets during events. One trustee said the donation is welcome but stressed the facility’s broader infrastructure needs are not solved by a single gift. Another trustee asked that the exact amount and purpose of the donation be recorded and clarified at the next meeting; the board seconded the request and approved the acceptance vote by roll call.
The motion to accept the donation passed with all trustees voting aye. Trustees also noted donations to other programs — arts and music foundations — help keep operating funds available for core services.
The board’s formal action recorded the donation amount as $25,000 and included a request that staff publish the donation amount and intended use at the next meeting for public clarity.
