Council approves mobile app for remote door control, pending contract review

Deputy Town Manager Andrea Balboni asked the council to approve purchase of a mobile application that will allow authorized staff to lock and unlock town building doors remotely. Balboni said the system requires a one-time fee and a small annual maintenance charge and noted it will enable staff to secure the building quickly during emergencies.
Balboni described the cost in the meeting as a one-time fee of "$404,110 dollar 1 time fee and then a 150 annually"; she asked for council approval to proceed pending legal review of the contract by the town attorney. The council moved and seconded the motion and approved it by voice vote. The motion included the condition that the contract be subject to legal review before final execution.
Balboni said the system also provides emergency lockdown capability and that staff will ensure police have access to the system as appropriate. The contract will be returned to the town attorney for review and execution if approved.
