Commission authorizes lateral recruitment, tentatively schedules Dec. 14 interviews

The Franklin City Police Commission on Oct. 7 authorized the department to begin a lateral recruiting and application process for officer vacancies and tentatively scheduled interviews for Dec. 14.
The chief asked the commission to move from maintaining a passive interest list to formally starting the lateral process. Commissioners voted to begin accepting lateral applications through Oct. 31 and asked the chief to report back at the November meeting with candidate counts and proposed test dates. The department expects to continue gathering application packets and to send formal candidate materials to commissioners in advance of interviews.
Commissioners discussed logistics: using a single-day interview schedule, allowing 20–30 minutes per interview, and holding the interviews at the department. Commissioners estimated a planning figure of roughly 12 lateral candidates to provide a working schedule; if fewer apply, the commission might shift to evening sessions instead of a full day. The commission noted scheduling challenges around holidays and agreed Dec. 14 as a tentative all-day date, to be revisited in November.
The commission passed a motion to start the lateral process and asked staff to circulate candidate resumes or brief packets electronically before interviews to give commissioners baseline information about applicants.
