Resident urges Schenectady County to lower speed limit and install speed feedback signs on Consul Road

A Niskayuna resident urged the Schenectady County Legislature on Oct. 14 to reduce the speed limit and install speed‑feedback devices on a short but winding stretch of Consul Road, saying drivers regularly travel 40–50 mph and that prior requests to the town produced little written response.
"Why can't Schenectady County and all the county roads be marked down to 25 miles an hour so it's safe for everybody?" said Michael Klett of 3554 Consul Road, who spoke during the privilege of the floor. He said he had solicited neighbors' support and described vehicles speeding, passing, and throwing beer cans.
After Klett spoke, Legislator Mark Russo said he would"like to see if the county could look into those devices that tell you how fast your actual speed is. That may be one thing we could do." Russo also noted law enforcement comments that differing speed limits on town and county roads can complicate enforcement and suggested further discussion with local officials.
Klett asked the Legislature for a direct reply on what action would be taken. The transcript records his appeal for a written response and for the county to"stop the politics and just do what is right"; no action date or formal directive was recorded in the meeting minutes.
