Columbus City Council on Aug. 19 approved on second reading an ordinance to rezone a roughly one‑acre parcel owned by Doc Chumley LLC from CN (neighborhood commercial) and RS‑1 (single‑family residential) to CC (community commercial) with commitments.
Jeff Bergman of the planning department presented the request, saying the applicant — identified in the public hearing as Eric Neils — seeks to rezone the parcel so the project can meet the regulations appropriate to the proposed market and café renovation. Bergman said the site sits at the corner of Golar and I‑25 West, with existing agricultural and commercial zoning nearby and residential uses to the north.
The planning staff and the plan commission provided a favorable recommendation and included a list of CC uses they want considered as conditional at this location to avoid potentially disruptive, auto‑oriented or heavy commercial uses. Photos and plan material shown to council depicted a building the applicant intends to renovate for a market and café.
No members of the public spoke in opposition during the formal hearing. The council moved to pass the ordinance on second reading; the motion and second were made and the ordinance passed by roll call vote 8–0.
