Cynthia Reeves, a registered public commenter, urged the court to expand open voting centers, then the court proceeded to the proclamation and public-health presentation. Yvette Ellis Richardson, representing Denton County Public Health, described a partnership with the Moncrief Cancer Institute and the institute's mobile unit. "The first time that Denton County Public Health had the mobile unit on-site was in January 2025," Richardson said. "To date, we have had 150 individuals registered for the services on the mobile unit. And to date, 50 individuals have actually showed up and received services." Richardson said the mobile unit visits county locations every other month and is available to anyone in Denton County who qualifies.
Judge Eads and multiple commissioners praised the health department's outreach. Commissioner Bobby Mitchell (Precinct 3) moved the proclamation; Commissioner Falconer seconded. "Thank you to our health department for bringing this forward," Mitchell said during the court discussion. The motion passed unanimously.
The proclamation notes that breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers, cites national statistics about incidence, and urges routine screening, education and support for survivors and families. Richardson encouraged residents to visit the Denton County Public Health website or call the department for screening schedules and said resource cards were available at the meeting.
Why it matters: The county's mobile screening outreach is intended to lower barriers to early detection by bringing services to county locations. According to the health department's remarks, the program has attracted significant interest but a smaller number of completed screenings so far, suggesting outreach and appointment follow-up as possible focus areas.
