Oasis Middle School student showcases trunk-or-treat bag design chosen for city event

Brendan McQuaid, a student at Oasis Middle School, and his makerspace teacher presented to the Oct. 14 meeting of the Cape Coral Charter School Authority Governing Board a student-designed trunk-or-treat bag that will be distributed at an upcoming city event.
Brendan described his design choices and the class process: the graphic-design assignment required students to use Canva, include the Oasis logo and design an 8½-by-11 layout that was kid-friendly and related to fall or trunk-or-treat themes without using AI. The class narrowed 99 student entries to 10 and then to five final designs; the teacher brought five printed bags and said 80 bags would be given out at the city trunk-or-treat.
"I tried to incorporate, you know, skeleton because it's very Halloween themed," Brendan said while describing his bag. Teachers and trustees praised his public-speaking and design work; the board noted the project gave students practical experience in branding and suggested possible connections to the high school entrepreneurship program for future sales or marketing of student-made items.
No action was required; the item was a student recognition segment on the agenda.
