The council considered resolutions to purchase three Demers ambulances and two all‑terrain utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) for fire and EMS use under cooperative purchasing contracts.
Staff described the UTVs as all‑terrain vehicles designed to carry a portable stretcher for large events, parks and locations inaccessible to full‑sized ambulances. “One of them is gonna be EMS, one of them is gonna be fire; it’s got a small pump for fire. It’s for areas where we can’t get an actual fire engine into,” a deputy fire chief said. Officials said two existing UTVs are about 20 years old and one is out of service.
Council members asked how the purchases would be funded. Staff said purchases would be covered by CDBG funds. Staff reported that the combined cost for the ambulances and UTVs was approximately $110,001.10 (the figure discussed in the workshop packet); the council placed the items on the consent agenda.
Council members also reminded departmental officials that if an item is placed on consent and later pulled for discussion, departmental staff should attend the meeting day of the vote to answer questions, a request staff acknowledged.
