South Lyon — Following the city manager’s announcement that he will retire effective Nov. 4, the City Council voted Oct. 13 to retain Walsh Municipal Services to conduct the executive search for a replacement.
Staff presented four recruiting proposals for an executive search. Several council members said they favored Walsh Municipal Services for its municipal experience, timeline and price point. Council member Hanson moved to select Walsh; the motion received a second and passed on a roll call vote that recorded affirmative votes from Hanson, Bill, Himmel, Moser, Bogart and other members present.
Council discussion noted Walsh’s long experience in Michigan local government, including prior city and township manager roles, and a guaranteed placement term of one year in Walsh’s proposal, which some council members cited as a differentiator. Several members also said they were comfortable with Vitrano/Petrino as an alternative because he had previously recruited the current city manager.
With the selection approved, Walsh Municipal Services will begin the search work as the council and staff finalize transition plans for the outgoing city manager. Council directed staff to coordinate with the selected firm and to proceed with the recruitment timetable provided in the proposal.
