South Lyon — The City Council on Oct. 13 approved the purchase of an ARM model ALC 25‑yard chassis‑mounted leaf collector from Emtek for $231,752.55 and passed a budget amendment to increase the equipment replacement fund to cover the cost.
DPW staff described the new unit as a one‑person, chassis‑mounted machine that will replace a 21‑year‑old, manually operated pull‑behind leaf collector. The new unit includes a hydraulically controlled 6‑way boom, a wood‑chipper backdoor feature and operator controls inside the cab. Staff said the old machine will be retained as a backup. The city will apply a $50,000 trade‑in for the old combination sewer cleaning truck toward the purchase. The purchase was procured through Sourcewell, the cooperative purchasing program.
Council member Hanson moved to approve the purchase for $231,752.55 from GL account 642‑979.550; Council member Bogart seconded. The council approved the purchase in a roll call vote.
Council then considered a budget amendment to the vehicle/equipment replacement fund to increase the GL 642‑979.550 line from $230,000 to $231,752.55 to reflect the final price. Hanson moved the budget amendment; Council member Moser seconded. The council approved the amendment by roll call vote.
Staff said the unit is in stock and available for delivery and that funds are available in the equipment replacement fund. The purchase and amendment were presented as a current fiscal‑year budget item. Staff noted Sourcewell pricing obviated the need for additional bidding.
