Later in the meeting, council members debated a proposal about how the city should acknowledge the federal holiday commonly known as Columbus Day. One council member proposed splitting the day so that midnight to noon would be observed as Indigenous Day and noon to midnight as Columbus Day. After additional discussion, council members moved to adopt a resolution to recognize both Indigenous Day and Columbus Day on the same date; the motion passed with five yes votes and two recorded no votes.
