The Garden Grove City Council approved temporary street closures requested by King Shox Technology Inc. to host the company's third annual Christmas toy drive on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025.
Deputy Community Services Director Janet Palais told the council the event has grown over two years, with staff estimates of more than 1,000 off-road builds, roughly 5,000 people in attendance and more than 100 vendors at prior events. King Shox has partnered with a nonprofit (the Garden Grove Community Foundation) and met permit requirements, including insurance and reimbursement agreements for city staff support, Palais said.
The requested route would close segments of Lampson Avenue, Edison Way, Industry Street and Belgrave Avenue and would include partial closures beginning the evening of Dec. 19 and full closures on Dec. 20 from about 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the staff report.
Council members voiced support for the event as a community toy drive and fundraiser. Council member George Pilgrim called the event “kind of a big deal” for its toy donations and community turnout. After a motion and second, the council voted 7-0 to approve the temporary street closures and associated conditions described by staff.
Palais said the sponsor will reimburse the city for direct costs associated with police, public works and other staff support, and that approval would not impact the city’s general fund.
The transcript does not record specific traffic-management conditions beyond the route and times presented in the staff report.
