Resident urges Hayden to improve outreach and make public information easier to find

Ray Drexler, who identified himself as a Hayden resident and HOA representative, credited Council member Ed Dupree for local town-hall style meetings and thanked council members who meet with constituents. “You're not hiding anything,” Drexler said, but he argued many residents do not take the time to seek out meeting materials and suggested the city proactively deliver concise summaries to increase engagement.
Drexler proposed the city notify HOA boards when developments will occur near their boundaries and suggested including short notices or summaries with sewer bills to alert residents about issues that affect them. He said those steps would encourage more participation in city decisions about roads, maintenance and growth.
Drexler also praised the sheriff and fire departments for participating in neighborhood meet-and-greets and said his HOA has organized annual get-togethers to foster community ties.
The council did not take formal action on Drexler’s suggestions at the meeting; staff and council acknowledged the comments and noted existing outreach opportunities and the capacity to add additional notifications if council directed staff to do so.
