Board to retroactively approve exchange students; teachers favored AI training and literacy supports at in‑service

The district will bring a retroactive approval of three exchange students currently attending Easton Area High School to the board on Oct. 28 after required paperwork arrived.
Dr. Tracy Draper summarized recent professional development for staff, saying teachers expressed strong interest in AI training as a time‑saving and personalization tool, and requested more hands‑on resources and structured literacy supports for grades K–5. Sixth‑grade math teachers participated in coaching focused on the eight mathematical practices and a strategy called “think, ink, pair, share” to promote student reasoning and collaboration.
Draper also noted Keys to Literacy facilitated training for six middle‑ and high‑school staff members who will serve as in‑district facilitators for comprehension routines.
At the request of the teachers’ union, the district is proposing a calendar revision to move parent‑teacher conferences out of Thanksgiving week (currently Monday–Wednesday) and into December; the revised calendar will be presented for board approval on Oct. 28 so families can plan accordingly.
In addition, Dr. Draper reiterated that the district has suspended some after‑school programming funded by state and federal sources until funding is restored because of the state budget impasse.
