District begins five-year strategic-plan process, will seek input from board and community

District leaders told the board on Oct. 14 that Hoke County Schools will begin creating a five-year strategic plan to guide priorities through June 2031, with the current plan ending in June 2026.
Plan elements and process: The presenter said the strategic plan will include an aspirational vision, mission statement, core values, a comprehensive needs assessment (covering student achievement gaps, staffing, facilities, technology and finances), priorities and measurable goals, performance measures and an implementation timeline. Staff stressed that the plan will be a living document monitored at cabinet and leadership meetings.
Stakeholder engagement: Board members, principals, teachers, parents, students, local businesses and community leaders will be invited to participate. The presenter said the district will align the plan with state and federal requirements, use SMART goals and publish a public dashboard to report progress.
Why it matters: The strategic plan will influence resource allocation, program priorities and district evaluation measures for the next five years. Staff said they will provide draft materials to the board and post the completed plan on district and school webpages.
Ending: District staff invited board participation and said they would share timelines, drafts and opportunities for community engagement as the plan is developed.
