New Hoke County high school nears occupancy; contractor work at 61% pay, contingencies remain

The presenter said exterior brickwork is complete, the main entry and parent drop-off loop are visible, glazing systems are being installed, and interior work including drywall, painting and mechanical finishes is progressing. The gymnasium, cafeteria, commons and science labs were shown as entering final finish phases during a photo slideshow.
Schedule and contingencies: The presenter said the construction schedule places the project about 84% complete. Contractor payments for work to date are at about 61% of the contract value. The project has used about 67.7% of contractor contingency and 2.12% of design contingency, while owner contingency stands near 32% of its original allocation. After accounting for pending change items under review (about $617,000), the project team estimated roughly $636,000 of contingency funds remain.
The presenter noted wet weather and earlier water-line reroutes had reduced schedule recovery opportunities; while the district does not anticipate the move-in will be affected, some milestone dates in late winter (Feb. 27 and March 29 referenced by the presenter) may shift. Demolition of vacated buildings and completion of parking, tennis courts, and stormwater work are expected after occupancy, likely in July'August of the following summer.
Budget point and technology: The presenter cautioned that the technology line in the project budget shows $2,100,000 as a planning placeholder and that procurement timing will be managed so equipment is not obsolete when installed.
Why it matters: The new facility will shift student assignments, allow the district to vacate older buildings, and reallocate campus spaces. Remaining contingency decisions will be brought to the board for potential use on campus improvements.
