Matt Varner, director of facilities for the Chambersburg Area School District, presented the district’s proposed 2026 capital projects list and answered board questions at the Oct. 13 meeting.
Varner said the proposed 2026 projects come from the district’s capital plan and are sized to keep annual capital expenditures near but under $2 million, totaling about $1.7 million for the listed work. He noted one addition to the plan: creation of two faculty restrooms at CMS requested by building staff.
On construction progress questions, Varner said auxiliary‑gym bleacher installation was roughly 75% complete and likely to finish ahead of schedule, and that wall patching and painting work is being done in‑house. He clarified that the district had not resurfaced the track this year; crews cleaned and restriped it and expect the current work to extend useful life by roughly six or seven years before resurfacing is required.
Finance staff also reviewed a parameters resolution tied to a first bond issue expected in December; the board was informed the parameters resolution allows staff to proceed with bonding steps but the resolution itself was being presented for action on the future voting agenda.
Varner asked board members to review the capital list and bring questions to administration before the consent agenda vote scheduled in two weeks.
