City staff presented findings after JCI disassembled one large and one small pump and identified additional work outside the original specifications. The additional items were detailed in the change-order documentation provided to commissioners.
Staff said the chosen approach — refurbishing the pumps and motors now — keeps existing equipment compatible with the current piping and structure, avoids the substantially higher cost of buying new pumps, and likely extends the units’ useful life by roughly seven to 10 years. Commissioners asked whether new pumps would ultimately last longer and staff responded that new equipment would likely increase longevity but also carry substantially higher immediate cost and potential fitment issues.
A motion to approve the change order passed by voice vote.
