Two seniors from Dwight Morrow High School’s Biomedicine Academy — Surya (Suri) Khamesh and Kiara (Kira) Hemkins — told the board they placed sixth out of 109 teams in a HOSA health‑care competition and thanked their advisors and parents.
Principal Mr. Osorio introduced the students and said the district was recognizing their accomplishment. The students explained they competed in the health career display competition, selected the career of forensic pathologist, researched the field, interviewed an American Board‑certified forensic pathologist and hand‑constructed an autopsy prop for their display. The competition process involved an initial poster round and, for top posters, an oral presentation round. The students reported they qualified from state to international competition and finished sixth in the final rankings.
The students credited their club advisor, family support and the Biomedicine Academy leadership. Principal Osorio and the superintendent congratulated the students and offered board recognition; the students’ names and additional team members who won at state and regional levels were read into the record.
No action was required or taken; this was a recognition item in the superintendent’s report.
