Commission approves temporary Pine Street closure for Mississippi Blues Caravan event

The Fort Scott City Commission unanimously approved a temporary closure of Pine Street from National to the alley on Sept. 9 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. to accommodate an outdoor performance billed as a Mississippi Blues Caravan.
City staff reported the event application included contact with a barricade contractor and a plan for traffic control. James Wood, owner of Hometown Pub, sought the closure to host three world-renowned blues musicians on the north side of his business to provide more space than an indoor venue.
The commission asked staff to relay thanks to organizers and approved the closure by roll call. Staff will coordinate barricades and any necessary public-notice signage.
The closure is scheduled for a single evening; organizers told commissioners they would handle cleanup and safety assurances.
