Commission tables strategic plan for rewrite; forms subcommittee to tighten executive summary

The Estacada Economic Development Commission agreed to table its draft strategic plan and delegated a small subcommittee to revise the document for clarity and alignment with council priorities.

Commissioners criticized the draft executive summary as “flowery” and unclear about priorities. Commissioner Eric Veil and others said the vision language should be tightened so the commission can present concise guidance to the city council. Commissioners emphasized protecting existing community members and the environment while growing local jobs and amenities.

Chair Carpenter proposed and the commission approved forming a subcommittee to draft a streamlined executive summary and review goals and priorities across the plan. Commissioners Sale and Cross were explicitly empowered to work with other commission members and staff; the group agreed to circulate subcommittee feedback to staff and the full commission. The subcommittee and staff estimated a two-week turnaround, with a goal of having materials ready for distribution ahead of the council’s April meeting.

The commission did not adopt changes at the meeting; staff will accept the subcommittee’s edits and return a revised plan for the commission to consider for referral to city council.
