Committee members noted that some fixes are modest (grading and packed material) while others require coordination with property owners or capital work.
City staff reminded the committee that sidewalks in front of private property are generally the property owner’s responsibility; new development, the staff said, is required to build sidewalks under the city’s transportation plan, and developers are typically required to put in sidewalks except in limited circumstances tied to phased developer agreements. Staff said it will accept precise location submissions from the committee and will use them to build a GIS sidewalk inventory to prioritize repairs.
A citizen request for a wheelchair ramp at Larch and Beach Street was received by code enforcement and routed to the committee; staff asked the committee to add that and other flagged locations to the inventory list. Committee members also discussed small, low‑cost fixes near schools and the value of working with county outreach on evacuation planning.
No formal code changes or capital allocations were made at the meeting; staff said the inventory will inform future repair prioritization and potential capital requests to council.
