Romulus council accepts FEMA AFG grant to buy updated cardiac monitors and mechanical CPR devices

The Romulus City Council on Oct. 13 accepted a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) totaling $598,534.66 to acquire upgraded cardiac monitors and mechanical cardiopulmonary-resuscitation devices for frontline fire apparatus.
Mayor McCrae asked the council to adopt the resolution accepting the award, saying the grant would fund the “updated cardiac monitors and mechanical CPR devices for frontline apparatus in the amount of $598,534.66.” The motion to approve was offered by Councilman Wadsworth and supported by Councilman Jones.
Council discussion was brief. Wadsworth said from personal experience that the devices are life-saving: “I've seen these cardiac monitor work, and I've used them myself in my days at the airport, and they definitely are it's a life saving device.” There were no abstentions; the roll-call vote was unanimous in favor and the motion carried.
The council did not attach additional conditions to acceptance of the AFG award. The resolution instructs City administration to complete any paperwork and accept the grant funding as presented.
