The City of Estacada Economic Development Commission on May 13 discussed organizing an industrial campus open house, possibly aligned with National Night Out on Aug. 5, to showcase local businesses and connect the community with manufacturing employers.
Commissioner Eric Sale said he will ask the public-traffic or public-safety committee whether the industrial campus could host the event on Aug. 5 and will follow up with the commission. "I'm gonna go to the public traffic, commission meeting... and ask them if they would be willing to have us let the industrial campus host that. It would be on August 5," Sale said.
Ideas discussed included inviting the sheriff's or police department to bring equipment, recruiting the Estacada High School jazz band to perform, seeking business sponsorships and using the event to promote a "live, work, play" message that shows people they can work in Estacada, raise a family and enjoy recreation nearby. Commissioner Cindy Moore suggested using the event to emphasize how residents can live, work and play locally.
Staff said they will check with the school district and public-safety committees, and if the date is approved the commission will convene a planning group in June to coordinate businesses, volunteers and logistics.
