Jeff told the commission he and his family moved to Estacada after a fire destroyed their house and barn and that this summer they will mark their second anniversary living in the city. “My family and I bought a property here about 5 years ago when the fire came through and took out the house and the barn. ... This summer, we'll be celebrating our second anniversary in Estacada,” he said during the interview. He described a career as a sole proprietor in filmmaking, communications and some property management and development, and said those experiences shaped his interest in local economic development and small-business challenges. “As a sole proprietor, I'm pretty familiar with a lot of the challenges that small business people have,” Jeff told commissioners.
Commissioners asked about his reasons for applying and how he would approach tensions between preserving the town's character and supporting growth. Jeff said he wanted to add value locally and help the community navigate the trade-offs between tradition and new development. Commissioners expressed appreciation for his perspective; after the interview the commission moved to recommend his appointment. The commission recorded voices of assent when asked to vote, and members indicated support by voice and raised hands. City staff noted the commission's recommendation will be placed on a City Council agenda for final approval.
