The Town of Waynesville council approved an update Oct. 15 to the solid waste fee schedule that allows the town to charge for replacement or additional trash and recycling carts when loss or damage is attributable to the customer (for example, theft, misuse or non‑wear‑and‑tear replacement).
Hutch Reese, deputy director of public works, told the council the change aligns the fee schedule with the ordinance and reflects the town’s actual procurement and delivery costs: replacements will be charged at the town’s purchase cost plus a $25 administrative fee. Reese said most cart replacements are currently due to wear and tear and that the revision is intended to document the town’s existing practice and recover costs when appropriate.
Council moved and seconded the fee schedule amendment and also approved directing staff to publish the updated fee schedule for public information.
