Dover administrators recommend three-year renewal with Huddle for livestreaming and analytics; board debates cost and alternatives

Doctor Wiesling briefed the board on the Huddle agreement and explained the contract had been used since the COVID period to provide live-streaming and analytics to teams. He said the earlier annual price was approximately $12,500 per year and the renewal price is $12,900 per year. "It has gone up," Doctor Wiesling said when asked about cost increases.
What the contract includes: board discussion and administration's briefing described a bundled offering that includes live streaming, archived game film, and analytics tools that identify plays and track player statistics for coaches and scouts. Staff said Huddle also offers scheduling, exchanges of film between districts for scouting and sport-specific algorithms that produce tactical data; staff said some teams had previously paid for analytic services separately before the company bundled streaming and analytics.
Ownership, cancelability and alternatives: administrators said the cameras currently in place belong to Huddle and would be removed if the district cancelled the contract; the district's ability to self-stream would require purchase of equipment and staffing. Staff said the district could cancel at any time in the renewal period and noted the board had budgeted the service in the upcoming fiscal year. They also reported several districts use Huddle and that some districts instead publish through YouTube to avoid a paywall; the administration said Dallastown uses its YouTube channel while retaining Huddle for analytics.
Revenue potential and cost-offset: board members discussed whether subscriber or pay-per-view revenue could offset the annual cost. Administrators provided a rough example that 4,212 unique plays at $5 would approximate $12,630 and could cover the subscription; staff said revenue-sharing terms vary across vendors and packages. Staff agreed to investigate (a) self-streaming costs and (b) Huddle package alternatives and pricing, and to return with more precise numbers.
Board considerations: some members advocated keeping the service because coaches and athletes value the analytics and the live-streaming feature; others said the package has become a convenience that could be scaled back to fund higher-priority items such as junior-high athletics. Administration noted the district had budgeted for the service for the 2025-26 year and that cancellation was possible at the end of the year.
Ending: no decision to cancel or renew was made at the planning meeting. Administration will supply a cost comparison that includes self-streaming equipment pricing, options for paywall/revenue-sharing, and alternative package options for board review prior to the renewal date.
