City staff presented an update on the community empowerment plan, highlighting recent and upcoming outreach events, partnerships and resource fairs across Santa Rosa.
Anna Orta, community engagement manager in the Communications and Intergovernmental Office, reported that the Violence Prevention Partnership—s 14th annual seminar on Oct. 9 was sold out with 225 attendees and included a keynote from Jesse Leon and breakout sessions on human trafficking, restorative justice, victim support and funding for violence prevention. Orta summarized a range of upcoming events the city will participate in or host, including an Oct. 17 blood drive at Findlay Community Park (10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.), the Sonoma County Museum block party and resource fair on Oct. 18, district community meetings in Roseland (Oct. 22) and District 6 (Oct. 28), a Santa Rosa City Schools career day appearance on Oct. 27, and a trunk-or-treat at the veterans memorial building on Oct. 27.
Councilmembers thanked staff for the outreach work and noted the success of district meetings and violence-prevention programming. Public commenters from Roseland praised stormwater and street-safety work recently completed (McMinn Avenue stormwater project, Burbank Avenue pathway) and encouraged the council to maintain engagement and prioritize community-led formats for district meetings.
Orta concluded the report and council took no formal action; events and community engagement will proceed per staff plans.
