BROWNSBURG, Ind. — At the Oct. 14 meeting, Brownsburg police officials reported an ongoing investigation into shots-fired at Legacy Apartments, national recognition for narcotics work, participation in a multi-agency operation targeting violent offenders and community donations tied to National Night Out.
Shooting investigation: Chief Joseph Grimes said that on Sept. 18 Officer Brad Carr responded to a report of found property at Legacy Apartments on Legacy Park Drive and discovered multiple shell casings in the roadway. Grimes said the crime-scene investigator collected evidence and that the investigation is ongoing. He said there was no damage to vehicles or property located at the scene.
Narcotics unit awards and operations: Grimes told the commission the Brownsburg Narcotics Unit accepted an award in Charleston, South Carolina, related to a 2024 case that the chief described as a national-interdiction-network award. Grimes said the unit had a seizure of 1,140.6 pounds of cocaine tied to the 2024 case; the transcript’s date phrasing was inconsistent when the chief referenced November and 2024. The commission also heard that the narcotics unit took part in “Operation Guardian,” a nationwide operation under the U.S. Marshals Service; Grimes said more than 2,120 violent offenders were arrested in the Central Indiana area as part of related efforts and that BNU partnered with the U.S. Marshals, the FBI, IMPD and other municipal agencies.
Officer recognition: Grimes said Cody Molina received recognition from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute for outstanding activity related to operating-while-intoxicated enforcement for 2024, marking two consecutive years of recognition.
Community engagement and donations: Grimes thanked staff and community partners for National Night Out and listed private donors who contributed meals or funds: Mowery Heating and Cooling, Marathon on Main Street, Bill Estes Ford, Hendricks County Bank and Trust, Porter’s Towing, Superior Garage, and others. He also noted a donation from Logan and Austin Davis’s lemonade stand to the K-9 division and individual donations for employee holiday meals.
Promotion of agency: The commission heard that the department is working with a videographer under a temporary contract to produce recruitment and public-facing material for social media and the department website.
Why it matters: The shooting investigation and narcotics work relate directly to public safety; awards and interagency operations illustrate regional collaboration. Community donations supported outreach and holiday meals for officers.
Ending: The commission recorded the reports and moved to the next consent and administrative items.
