On Oct. 14 the TIE Committee voted 3‑0 to approve CR 1‑23‑20‑25, a resolution authorizing the City of Hyattsville to operate stop‑sign monitoring systems at up to 36 locations within the municipality.

Committee staff said the city submitted documentation that it met statutory requirements to use automated stop sign monitoring systems. Hyattsville’s request covers 36 locations the city has identified as safety concerns; the city said it does not intend to operate all devices at once but wants flexibility to relocate enforcement as needed.

“Hyattsville...is one of our largest municipalities, here, in Prince George’s County,” said Council member Fisher, sponsor of the resolution, noting recent annexations and higher density that have changed traffic patterns. Fisher said she expects city officials to be “thoughtful and judicious about where they put the stop signs in their community.”

The county executive’s office asked the committee to give the city favorable consideration; following the sponsor’s motion (seconded by Fisher) the measure passed 3‑0.

Next steps: The resolution authorizes Hyattsville to proceed under the county’s stop‑sign monitoring authorization; Hyattsville will implement and manage locations within the terms of the authorization.
