Captain David Day (presenting for the sheriff’s office) told the committee the sheriff’s department requested approval to accept an impaired driving countermeasures (DUI) highway safety grant totaling $105,554 in reimbursement funding from the Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs. Day said the program allows reimbursement for personnel costs tied to officers’ dedicated DUI enforcement and for certain operating costs; he noted there is no local match requirement.
“Under the program, the sheriff’s department is eligible to receive up to 100% reimbursement for certain personnel cost associated with dedicated efforts of existing officers to enforce DUI and drug impaired driving laws,” Day said in his presentation to the committee.
The committee approved acceptance of the DUI grant by voice vote.
The committee then approved acceptance of a $10,000 mini‑grant from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety to support the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Law Enforcement Network (LEN). Captain Day said the funds will pay for training and meeting costs, including travel to the National Highway Safety Law Enforcement Conference required by the grant; no local match is required. The motion to accept the LEN mini‑grant carried by voice vote.
