Board: purchase of Joyland property remains under review pending environmental testing

Dr. Bell, the district superintendent, gave a public update on the Joyland property during the Oct. 14 meeting, saying a May voter authorization set a purchase ceiling (up to $850,000) but that multiple environmental and due-diligence steps remain before the district can decide whether to complete a purchase.
"There's a ton of work that has to be done before we would make a final commitment to buy the property or not," Dr. Bell said. "Some of the biggest things are doing all the environmental testing where you drill into the ground and test the soil and all those things. So no decision about whether we will formally buy Joyland or not will be made until sometime in early 2026 because of all the testing and stuff that we want."
Dr. Bell added that the district is doing required testing and paperwork and that the timeline reflects due diligence rather than inactivity. No board vote or new authorization accompanied the update.
